The Artist, the Island, and the Birth of the Russian Navy

«This year, I painted «The Youth of Peter in Izmailovo». Peter discovered an English boat in the old Linen Yard and became fascinated with it. This passion eventually led to the birth of the Russian navy,» says artist Viktor Matorin.

For many years, the artist has immersed himself in history and architecture, studying the landscape of the Izmailovo estate in detail. He paints here, holds master classes and outdoor painting sessions, and has recently recreated the architecture and landscape of 17th-century Izmailovo in his work.

The latest episode of «Heroes of Moscow» takes viewers on a guided tour of the island where the historic estate is located and offers a glimpse into the artist’s studio.
